At St. Peter’s Solihull Teaching School Alliance, we have a long and successful history of training new teachers through school-based training.


School Direct

This is an exciting opportunity to undertake a one-year teacher-training programme based in one of our primary or secondary Alliance schools. St. Peter’s Teaching School Alliance are looking for enthusiastic, dynamic and energetic individuals who have the potential to become outstanding teachers with the drive and motivation to make a difference. We offer a highly successful, bespoke training programme and have an excellent track record and a wealth of experience in training new teachers. . We are passionate about “growing our own”, providing high quality school-based training to a wide range of people, including recent graduates, career changers and colleagues who have held support roles in a school environment. Our track record is outstanding, with 100% of School Direct trainees securing permanent posts by the end of their training year, often within our Alliance schools. Successful completion of the course will lead to the award of qualified teacher status (QTS) and will include a postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) certified by Newman University

We are proud to offer a range of School Direct salaried and non-salaried posts. For primary, we offer non-salaried places. For Secondary, we offer a range of non-salaried and salaried places in the following subjects:

Chemistry, Computer Science, Geography, History, Mathematics, Modern Foreign Languages, Physics and Religious Education

Am I eligible to apply for School Direct?
The School Direct (Salaried) programme is a direct replacement for the Graduate Teacher Training Programme (GTP). Those wishing to train via this route need to have at least three years’ experience of working in a graduate profession or have extensive experience of working with young people. Recent experience in the education sector would be advantageous.

In order to apply for a place on School Direct, you must have:

•  A UK undergraduate degree or a recognised equivalent qualification in the subject you wish to teach (or a closely related discipline).
•  A GCSE grade C or above in English and Mathematics.

We offer PGCE placements in a wide range of subjects and have an excellent reputation for the level of training and support that we offer.
